Association Advocacy Results in U.S. House Members Asking the President to Address Lumber Issue
Dallas BA recently coordinated with NAHB and requested our service area’s U.S. House members to urge the White House to seek a solution for the ongoing lumber shortage and price spikes. As a result, a bipartisan letter, co-authored by the Dallas area’s Kenny Marchant and California’s Norma Torres, was sent to President Trump on October 20. The letter urges the Administration “to bring all stakeholders to the table and work to find a solution to address lumber scarcity and subsequent price spikes”, citing the action is needed to alleviate a threat to housing and the economy.
In their letter, the members of Congress reference the strong market activity that has resulted from homebuilding and a stronger than expected demand, but also points out that this economic success is at risk of reversal due to the high increase in the cost of materials, particularly lumber.
Marchant and Torres were joined by 96 House colleagues, including Dallas BA service area Representatives Michael Burgess, Lance Gooden, Van Taylor and Marc Veasey. Click here to view the letter.
