Consider Hiring a Co-op Student from Collin College this Summer
The Co-op Course is an integral part of Collin College’s Construction Management program. Not only does it provide students the opportunity to apply their classroom training, it allows companies to conduct an “extended interview” of potential employees.
Collin College has a number of students who have completed their first year of coursework, including Blueprint Reading, Methods & Materials and OSHA Regs. They are eligible for the Co-op Course this summer.
Additional information about the program, which involves 320 (or more) hours of documented work experience with an approved employer, is linked here and here. The summer course runs from June 10 until Aug. 16. However, students are permitted to work before and after those dates if requested.
Co-op hosts are expected to provide a supervisor, who will sign monthly time cards and meet with the instructor and the student for two site visits (one at the beginning of the semester and one at the end). These visits typically last 15-20 minutes and involve reviewing the student’s goals and/or performance.
