Dallas BA Opposes Forney Moratorium on New Development Applications and Plans

The city of Forney held a public hearing on Aug. 30 to consider a 120-day moratorium on applications and plans for development for single-family and multifamily residential developments within the town’s corporate city limits. The restriction would apply to those submittals filed on or after Sept. 2, 2021, and includes permits, plats, verifications, rezoning site plans and new or revised certificates of occupancy.

Although the ordinance has been scheduled for a Sept. 2 public hearing for the town’s Planning & Zoning Commission, the item has already run into a roadblock at city council as the motion to adopt the ordinance failed on a split vote.

Prior to the Aug. 30 hearing, Dallas BA submitted this letter to the city council and staff opposing the proposed ordinance questioning both the appropriateness and lack of evidence in the ordinance’s incorporated findings, which is required by state law.

Dallas BA will continue to monitor this issue.
