Dallas BA Takes Industry Concerns to Washington
Members and staff of the Dallas Builders Association helped make the home building industry’s voice heard on June 5 during meetings with our service area’s Congressional delegation in Washington, D.C. Dallas BA joined other home builder associations from around the country to talk housing policy with members of Congress.
With affordability being one of the biggest challenges to making homes attainable, the Association spoke with our members of Congress about the need for housing finance reform, workforce needs and trade policy.
Dallas BA urged the swift ratification of the United States-Mexico-Canada-Trade Agreement, as well as asking that our congressional delegation urge the administration to end tariffs on imports of softwood lumber, steel, aluminum and a wide variety of other goods used by the home building industry.
The discussions also included a request for Congress to pass a long-term reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The NFIP has just gone through its 12th short-term extension that will end on Sept. 30. With short-term extensions there can be a lapse in the program that hurts homeowners, as well as delays and cancellations of closings for homes required to carry flood insurance.
Shortly after home builders visited with Congress, it was announced that House leadership had reached an agreement on a 5-year reauthorization of the NFIP.
Dallas BA’s congressional meetings were part of NAHB’s legislative conference.
