Dallas City Council to Vote on Updated Fee Schedule at March 27 Meeting
In the City of Dallas, the proposed ordinance that updates development and building fees will now be headed back to the City Council for a final vote on March 27.
The city’s original fee study proposed increases that would have added thousands of dollars to the cost of construction for both single-family and multifamily homes.
The draft ordinance, which was brought before the city council on Dec. 13, actually saw many of those proposed fees reduced from the version that was presented in the fee study. Still, due to concerns regarding the assumptions made in the study, the possible impact on housing affordability, and the need to have more input from the Dallas Builders Association and fellow stakeholders, the City Council postponed action on the item until their Jan. 24 meeting. After hearing more from Dallas BA, the council postponed their decision again until March 27.
Their decision on the fees will move quickly at that point with the new schedule likely going into effect on May 1. Builders and developers are encouraged to review the proposed fee changes.
