Early Voting Underway for Texas Constitutional Amendment Special Election

Early voting has begun for proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution. After gaining approval from two-thirds of both the Texas House and Senate, the amendments are now presented to Texas voters for final approval.

Early voting began this week and runs through Oct. 29, with the final opportunity to vote on these amendments being Election Day, Nov. 2. We encourage you to vote early.

There are two amendments that are of interest to residential development and other small business sectors.

Proposition 2 would authorize a county to finance the development or redevelopment of transportation or infrastructure in unproductive, underdeveloped, or blighted areas of the county. Proposition 8 would expand the homestead exemption to the surviving spouse of a member of the United States armed services who is killed or fatally wounded in the line of duty. Currently, that tax exemption is not available to the spouse of those who die during their service due to injuries sustained that are not combat related.
