Dr. Robert Dietz

Dr. Robert Dietz is Chief Economist and Senior Vice President for Economics and Housing Policy for the National Association of Home Builders, where his responsibilities include housing market analysis, economic forecasting and industry surveys, and housing policy research. He has published academic research on the benefits of homeownership, federal tax policy, and other housing issues, and has testified before Congress on real estate policy issues. He is often cited on housing and economic issues in the Wall Street Journal, CNBC, and other media sources. Prior to joining NAHB in 2005, Robert worked as an economist for the Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation, where he was the committee’s real estate expert. He is a native of Dayton, Ohio, and earned a Ph.D. in Economics from the Ohio State University.

Dr. Jim Gaines is chief economist at the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University and focuses on housing and land development issues.  Dr. Gaines has more than 35 years of experience in a broad array of professional activities, primarily in real estate research and education, urban economics, land use analysis and development, and project risk assessment. Dr. Gaines has worked extensively with major corporations, developers, investors, financial institutions, and government agencies across the country. His assignments have involved all aspects of real estate analysis, including modeling market potential and economic capabilities, investment and/or development project risk assessments, identifying alternative land uses, financial and valuation issues, site development and construction risks and opportunities, and strategic corporate real estate planning.

Experienced building materials executive with over 35 years of industry knowledge. Currently serving as Vice President of Purchasing at Foxworth-Galbraith Lumber, a family-owned business servicing five states in the southwest. Responsible for all procurement functions for the 32 unit operation achieving over 500M in annual sales. Joined the company in 2003, and held various management roles at the corporate office in both purchasing and merchandising. Prior to Foxworth-Galbraith, I held various operational management roles at Payless Cashways for sixteen years throughout the Southwestern markets.
