Irving Operation FINALLY HOME Project Progresses
Winston Custom Homes is making headway on the Dallas BA’s 8th project in partnership with Operation Finally Home (OFH). This week the home, located on a lot graciously donated by the City of Irving, received its foundation thanks to the generosity of Nortex Redimix who donated the concrete and Silverstone who provided the labor.
The home is being built for U.S. Navy Corpsman, Third Class, Luisa Velez and her son. Velez enlisted at age 18 and was deployed to Iraq in 2003. During that time she tended to wounded Marines, stabilizing them so they could be moved to a ship or hospital for care. She unfortunately received wounds of her own when the hospital building was hit by a mortar attack. She learned she was receiving a mortgage free home in November in an emotional ceremony.
This is the second project led by Winston Custom Homes and builder Matt Walls. The first was completed just blocks away in 2019. Walls is the only builder to step up a second time to lead an OFH project.
A “Notes of Love” ceremony should be scheduled in early 2022 giving the public an opportunity to write inspirational messages on the home’s framing studs. Details will be made available in the Dallas BA’s Punchlist.
Members interested in donating products or services to the project are encouraged to contact Sheena Beaver at sheena.beaver@dallasbuilders.com. Monetary donations can be made via this link. All proceeds received through that URL will go directly to the Velez project.
